Shadow dance

The four large moons of Jupiter regularly cast shadows on their planet during their orbit. Our club member and teacher at the Gesamtschule Waldbröl Günter Dombrowski captured this spectacle with a short image sequence. The complete instrumentation is available in the STScI school lab: Celestron C11 telescope with ASI ZWO camera, 36 movies with 3000 frames each, stacked 5% each with AutoStakkert and stitched to a video with the Windows video editor. Günter says: You can see the rotation of Jupiter, the “celestial mechanics of Jupiter’s moons”, the change of observing conditions during the night and each student sees how he or she could perfect such a project himself.
