So says our “youngster”

Last year we received an email from Leon Advena asking for an internship at the observatory. Unfortunately we do not offer internships, but transfer immediately chief positions. Since then Leon has been our “youngster” and we recently asked him why he is actually joining us. He says:

“When I offered my modest help at the Schnörringen Observatory in September 2019, I did not know much about the events that have been going on in Schnörringen for a long time. Although I had already got a rough idea of the project through a newspaper article some time before, my first deeper insight into the objectives, the idea and the dimensions of the observatory took place on the day I paid my first visit to the site. Especially the fact that the observatory is not an institution that only serves its association members as a place of observation, but wants to address interested pupils as its primary target group, was surprising and impressive. This idea has inspired me ever since and is one of the reasons why I am very happy to participate in the further development of the observatory. As a schoolboy – even if this time is not so long ago – I would not have even dreamed of the possibility of observing at the largest telescope in North Rhine-Westphalia and I would not have had to think for a second about the question whether I wanted to use the possibility of observing at that very instrument. Furthermore, the warm welcome I received during my first coming to Schnörringen and also during the following time has been a great motivator to work at the observatory. Last but not least, the always present cheerful hope for the commissioning and the use of the facility as a great goal is of course also to be mentioned as a motivation”.
