As the observatory does not stand on its own property its preservation in the distant future was unsecured. There was a permanent threat of high property taxes that the association could not cover. In an unprecedented fundraising campaign by private individuals, entrepreneurs and the public sector, this problem was solved. The property can now be transferred promptly from our managing director to the STScI e.V. because the high transfer costs have been covered. The non-profit association will be exempt from property tax from 2026. With the support of of some “players”, the public is once again taking responsibility for the preservation of our school offerings in the STEM field.
