Pupils at Engelbert von Berg-Gymnasium in Wipperfürth chose astronomy as a specialisation course and found out about our technical equipment and the opportunities for astronomical work at our site. The weather was excellent, so the students focussed on the sun in the school lab. Along the way, our visitors built one-euro spectrographs and discussed astronomical questions. They learnt that a star can be up to 1200 times bigger than the sun, what happens to the earth when it falls into a black hole and that the universe is just a dot for photons. We pointed out that the technical and scientific subjects help to combat fake news and populism, but are certainly not easy to master today but will be in great demand today and in the future.
