Girls’Day 2025 – A view into the stars

On April 3, we hosted an exciting Girls’ Day that introduced seven schoolgirls to the fascinating world of astronomy. Under the motto “Astrophotography and image processing”, the participants immersed themselves in the basics of astro-image processing and learned how to create impressive images of galaxies and nebulae from raw data.

The workshop was followed by a special highlight: observing the night sky through the observatory’s telescopes. Observing through the large 80-centimeter telescope – the largest telescope in NRW – was an unforgettable experience. Together with experienced amateur astronomers, the pupils discovered planets, stars and distant galaxies – an unforgettable experience that not only aroused amazement, but also curiosity about science and technology.

The Waldbröl School Observatory is delighted to have once again inspired young women for STEM subjects with Girls’ Day and would like to thank everyone involved for an inspiring evening under the stars.
